Submission Questions

Nominees will be invited to complete a Nominee Submission form when nominations are closed. The Submission Questions below are here to help nominees prepare their answers for the Nominee Submission form.

Nominees, please use these questions to help prepare your answers for the Submission form that you will be invited to complete in March.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR

PERSONAL PROFILE: Tell us about yourself – 100 words maximum
How did you come to be in early education and care? What path have you taken to become a director? What’s your driving philosophy?
OPTIONAL: Please include a short (3 minute max) video tour of your service which:
• shows your philosophy in action; and/or
• shows what you are most proud of; and/or
• provides context for your submission

CHILDREN’S WELLBEING: Tell us about the children in your care/ at your service – 250 words maximum
Think about and describe your role in children’s wellbeing. Focussing on a particular issue or challenge, tell us how have you guided the staff in the process of improving the wellbeing of children in your care, including:
• This issue/challenge
• What you did to effect change
• What results/observable differences you saw

PROGRAMMING: Tell us about how they learn – 250 words maximum
The EYLF specifies a number of programming outcomes.
Describe how the team has implemented, under your direction, a children’s program that provides authentic learning experiences.

ONGOING SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS: Tell us about your service – 250 words maximum
As a leader of your service or scheme, describe a project that you’ve planned, developed and put into place. What significant improvements in the education and care of both children and staff have occurred as a result of this? EG, physical improvements, a new way of managing staff, reaching out to the broader community for mutual benefit.
For Family Day Care, describe how your scheme has improved the support network for individual educators.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Tell us about the people you work with – 250 words maximum
Describe your professional learning network within your service and reaching out to the wider sector. Explain how this contributes to your ongoing learning and that of your staff.

FAMILY/COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS: Tell us about your families/community – 250 words maximum
Describe the context of the families that attend your service including any challenges they may face.
Explain how, through your management, you have met one or more of the key challenges.
Describe how you’ve built connections between families and the centre/staff over your time as director.

FUTURE PLANS: Tell us about your plans – 250 words maximum
What are your career/professional goals for the next 3-5 years? If you were to win the National Director of the Year Award, what would you do with the prize money (CELA Training grant  and $5,000 PD grant)?

As a team, what is your process for identifying, planning and implementing changes/improvements to the service/scheme?

Describe the various roles/areas of professional responsibility that individuals take charge of within your team. How has professional development allowed them to increase the depth and breadth of their professional practice?
