Now that spring has well and truly sprung, let’s hope it’s the end of the tummy bugs, flu and colds that have plagued many families over the winter months.
It’s just great to get back outdoors again. For something so simple it’s easy to forget just how important it is for kids to be playing outside every day. It’s great for their bodies, minds, learning and social development as well.
Do you know that only one third of kids these days spend time playing outside each day? Compare that to when we were kids, when all you did was play outside. Our parents had to virtually drag us in once it got dark.
Are we just too busy these days or unaware of how important outdoor play is for kids? Are we too scared of our kids getting dirty or maybe it’s the concern of stranger danger that is keeping them inside?
I am making a conscious effort to get my boys outside every day. Luckily for me that’s where they would much rather be. The only downside is the pile of washing – making mud pies is dirty work!
