Both of my son’s birthdays are approaching. It’s an exciting time for them and me. However, I am always mindful of what is appropriate as far as a party is concerned.
My soon-to-be six year old is keen to invite his whole class to his birthday party. Of course that’s not going to happen. 25 kids are too many as far as I am concerned.
So is hiring clowns, renting ponies or even hiring a party planner to take control of the afternoon.
Surely pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, a homemade cake and some reasonably ‘healthy’ party food is still ok for our little darlings?
Don’t get me wrong, I know we want them to have a good time, but kids aren’t that hard to please from what I see. The best parties are usually the ones where the kids join together to make their own fun.
Whilst I usually wouldn’t have a party for a toddler who doesn’t have a huge social circle, (who does at two), having an older brother is prompting my soon- to- be three year old to ask for one as well. So this year, they are both able to chose a theme and it will be ten kids for my eldest son and a handful of our friends for my youngest.
My view is if we indulge them too much too early, how can we live up to even greater expectations as they grow older.
What do you think? Are kid’s parties all getting way over the top or am I just a bit of a party pooper?0 comments
