Holiday Care

Now that I have a school age child, I find myself living in school terms.  Another one has passed, and very quickly I might add.  So now we have another holiday break to catch our breath before the next one starts.

I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to work from home and on a part time basis.  So when the holidays arrive, it isn’t a real stress for me having the kids off school.

But what of all of the full time working parents?  I wonder how you manage with all the school holiday breaks?

There are some 12 weeks of school holidays within the calendar year, so even if both parents each take four weeks leave, that still leaves another four weeks that the kids are at home.

No wonder there has been a huge increase in the demand for vacation care programmes. There are also quite a few grandparents and other family members who take on some extra holiday duties.

I am only too happy to lend a hand to my son’s friends whose parents both work and may need a day here or there of child minding.

We are all part of the mumhood and it feels good to help another Mum out or at least offer. There is nothing worse than being worried where your child is going to spend his or her holidays.

Who do you working Mums turn to? And what of you stay-at-home Mums – do you find yourself willing and able to look after other kids during the holidays?
